My impression of the 30" Cinema, since it hasn't even sold in a while, is that it uses technology that is now considered old. I haven't used the 30" but I have a 20" Cinema. I would be interested to hear any views on this, if anyone else compares the two. And, of course, the 30” cinema display is not plagued by the annoying reflections from which the iMac screen still suffers. My impression is that the Apple 30” cinema display provides slightly better detail with tiny, difficult parts of the photos and more faithful colour rendition. It is clear that when it comes for instance to text on the screen, the new iMac 5K screen is much better than the Apple 30” cinema display.īut with photos of very high quality, of the type that are taken with high-end cameras in lab conditions and posted in websites such as dpreview for evaluation purposes, it becomes a lot harder to see any advantages to the iMac 5K screen. Secondly, this is not a review about the performance of this new iMac, just about one aspect of it: the screen and for just one purpose: photography of the pixel-peeping kind. I do own an old Mac Pro and an old Apple 30” cinema display. First of all, let me clarify that I do not own the new iMac 27” 5K.
